Frequently Asked Questions
-
What sets us apart is how we work with you. Care at Pelviology is not one-size-fits-all or rushed.
As a specialist pelvic health physiotherapy clinic, we support people with symptoms and health experiences that are often complex, sensitive or difficult to explain in a standard appointment. We take time to understand your symptoms, goals, health history, preferences and the wider factors that may be influencing your care.
Our team has advanced focus areas across pelvic pain, bladder and bowel symptoms, pregnancy and postnatal recovery, menopause, men’s pelvic health, sexual pain, athlete pelvic health and surgical recovery.
Where helpful, we also collaborate with your GP, specialist or allied health team, so information is clearer, decisions are better connected and your care is tailored to what you need. Our approach is calm, thoughtful and person-centred, with a strong focus on education, empowerment and long-term outcomes — not just short-term fixes.
-
You can book online or contact our advocate team if you are unsure which appointment is the best fit.
Before your first appointment, you are welcome to share any information that helps us understand your symptoms, goals, preferences or support needs. This may include referral letters, reports, previous treatment history, or anything that helps you feel more prepared.
From there, we will guide you through the next step clearly and at your pace.
-
All Pelviology physiotherapists are highly trained in pelvic health and work within the same evidence-based framework.
Appointments are available with both Specialist and Advanced Physiotherapists, depending on availability and clinical needs. If you're unsure, our Advocate Team can help guide you to the most appropriate option.
-
Not always.
A physical assessment is only recommended when it is likely to help us understand your symptoms more clearly or guide the best next step in your care.
Depending on your needs, this may include home-based tests, movement or strength assessment, external ultrasound, visual observation, external touch assessment or, occasionally, an internal pelvic examination.
Your physiotherapist will explain what may be useful and why. Nothing is assumed or compulsory, and every part of the assessment is guided by your comfort, consent and preferences.
-
We support women, men and gender-diverse people across many stages of life.
This includes people navigating pelvic pain, bladder or bowel symptoms, pregnancy, birth preparation, postnatal recovery, menopause, prostate surgery recovery, sexual pain, endometriosis, persistent pain, athlete pelvic health concerns and more complex pelvic health presentations.
You do not need to know exactly what is going on before you book. Part of our role is to help you understand what may be contributing and what support may be appropriate.
-
No. You can book directly with Pelviology without a referral.
We also welcome referrals from GPs, specialists, midwives, nurses, psychologists, dietitians, exercise professionals and other allied health practitioners.
If you do have referral letters, imaging, test results or previous reports, you are welcome to bring them with you or send them through before your appointment.
-
Yes. Telehealth is available and is an equal care option at Pelviology.
For many people, starting online can make care feel more manageable — especially if attending in person feels like a lot, you live outside Brisbane, you have pain flares, caring responsibilities, sensory preferences, mobility considerations or simply feel more comfortable beginning from your own space.
-
Your first appointment is designed to provide enough time to understand your story—not just your symptoms.
We use this time to explore your health history, understand your goals, complete any assessments you're comfortable with, explain our findings, and begin developing a personalised management plan.
Many people tell us that simply understanding what's happening in their body is one of the most valuable parts of the appointment.
